PR 1 Dville Wall

Public Notice:

The Sierra County Department of Public Works, on behalf of the Sierra County Flood Control District, announces that construction of the Downie River Flood Wall will commence on or around July 12.  This project is the result of flood damage sustained during the flood emergency of resulting from heavy rains in December 17, 2005 through January 3, 2006.
The project consists of construction of approximately 185 linear feet of concrete wall with exposed height of 4 to 8 feet with an architectural finish.  The wall will be constructed on the north side of the river between the Highway 49 (Jersey Bridge) and the Nevada Street Bridge (behind Lion’s Park).  A contract has been awarded to Feather River Materials, Inc. out of Quincy.
Construction is scheduled to begin shortly after the large venue community events in July, with the hope to lessen the impact to the business community.  The parking area behind and below the Downieville Visitor Center will be needed for construction staging.
Questions regarding the project can be directed to Bryan Davey, Project Manager, at the Sierra County Department of Transportation at 530-289-3201.
