The Sierra County Fire Safe and Watershed Council Inc.
has two seats open on its board of directors.  The board is accepting applications for the position.  The fire safe council first began as part of the county under the Board of Supervisors.  Eventually, it was determined that it would be more effective as a non-profit agency, but it was still intended to represent and serve the people of Sierra County.  It is important that such a board have people representing all the views of the county.  If you think you could bring a broader view to the council, apply HERE

Not As Mad as I Want to Be:

A plan to save the coho in coastal Northern California (link) considers impacts on agriculture.  The plan will probably still fail, since there are too many other factors against the coho, but at least someone thought of the people impacted.  Everyone should want to see healthy rivers and flourishing fish populations, but the burden shouldn’t fall only on rural people, nor on the industries which, in the long run, serve urban people. Want to fix the river for the coho?  Pay more for toilet paper and lumber; otherwise, bugger off.
