Flames in Downieville! 072310
The horror of fire in the canyon raised its head today as the Fisher house, on Pearl Street in Downieville, burst in to flames which leapt into the bushes and trees behind the house.
Fortunately, several parties responded to the fire, including Cal Fire. A helicopter dropped water from on high: a good thing because the hill behind the house is terribly steep, and the ridge runs far into the hills.
This location was one chosen by the Fire Safe and Watershed Council for fuel reduction treatment. The grant was not funded; but FSWSC Operations Director Mike Freschi and Executive Director Cindy Noble continue to seek funding. (A map is below.)
